Recycled Plastics
When using plastics like PP, HDPE and PET it’s better to integrate a % of recycled materials within the mix (coming from the consumer's waste - also called PCR for Post Consumer Recycled).
Food Contact Packaging
- Often time recycled materials are not FDA compliant for food contact, because of the variety of sources it has been collected (food contact materials need to stay in a closed loop to keep the “food-contact” approval)
- Food-contact plastics are used for any parts in contact with the formula to ensure safe use in the market. Any outer parts of packaging does not need to be food contact approved
- We can’t create 100% recycled packaging because of this technical limitation
Technical Pieces
- Also technical pieces like parts in a pump or a functional element need more sturdiness to resist the multiple opening and potential straining of the piece.
- For this reason, we can’t really use PCR plastics either because the material are degraded in quality
